If my business just had...
Talking with entrepreneurs who are actively running businesses, I often hear,
If Only I Had . . .
More time
There is never enough time to do it all. So don’t do it ALL, do what matters.
An investor
Every business owner thinks someone else has it easier. Run YOUR business. Know YOUR numbers and plan your business accordingly.
Less competition
No competition probably means there isn’t a need for your service / product. Be the best you can be and the competition will actually help you.
Loyal customers
Customers are loyal as long as you have something to offer that they want. Keep in mind What Is In It For Them
A better location
Serve the clients in your area or move to the area your clients are in.
A stronger team
Learn how to be a better leader, your team will appreciate it.
The list goes on and on. In fact, it can be assumed that all business owners have said each of these things at some point in their career. They are right. Each of these things will help a business achieve some level of success.

Having run businesses for 30+ years and worked with thousands of business owners, the short list of must haves for true long-term success is:
It takes patience to create the business that provides consistent profit and even longer to build the business that works without you. Your Annual Goals should take 10-12 months to complete.
Do what you need to do today so that you are prepared for what needs to be done next week, next month, next year. Urgency to get done what needs to be done
A plan
Have a plan that leads you closer to your ultimate big picture. Set annual goals, and quarterly objectives that lead you there.
Have a passion for the business you run. No one works harder than an entrepreneur. Be sure it is the only thing you can imagine yourself doing before becoming an entrepreneur.
Be Willing. Willing to become the person you need to become to create the success you desire. Willing to do what needs to be done each day. It takes more than just knowing what to do, you actually have to do it.
While that first list feels like it will make life easier, I guarantee you the second list will have a much longer impact on the success you experience in your business.
