“No act minds discuss faithful in things are done some days of butterflies the day hour small minds…”

Juggling It All

Do you live by the quote above? Actually you might. It is random words taken from multiple famous quotes. Each quote is an inspiring thought that we use as guidance. But once we throw it all together, it just does not say anything.

As an entrepreneur you always have a lot going on, it can be overwhelming to carry it all with you everywhere you go. Unfinished projects, half written articles, decisions that need to be made, conversations that need to be had, bills to pay, plans to make. Each of these thoughts take energy to maintain. To keep the task in your conscious mind requires that you pick them up multiple times a week or even each day.

Stop It! You can’t go on like this!! Okay a bit dramatic, still true.

It is time to Close The Loops.

To close the loops, means to get things off your mind.

  1. Complete them

  2. Schedule them

  3. Eliminate them

You cannot do everything in a day, a week or even a month. Unlocking The Power of Daily Success, is about having the patience to let things wait until it is their turn, and creating the urgency needed to get done what is priority now.

Being overwhelmed is a choice. More accurately it is often the inability to make the choice.

  1. Complete what needs to be done today, today.

  2. Know your top priorities, concerns, challenges are on your calendar and you will handle them in due time

  3. When you have made a choice, decision, completed an activity. Let it go. If new information comes in that changes your direction you can evaluate it them. Do not keep waiting for the new information, you may have all you need to know to keep moving today

Here is how to get started.

  1. Do a brain dump. Take some time to sit down and write down everything that is on your mind. DO NOT FILTER THIS. Get it all down on paper in whatever format works best for you. I highly recommend you do this with a trusted mentor. You need to be able to keep this flowing without judgement. Do not take time to evaluate these thoughts, just keep them coming.

  2. Eliminate. What on the list, good idea or not, does not need to be a part of your activity right now? Cross it off the list. If it is a good idea for the future, make a note of it and keep it in a file you can access when the time is right. This is YOUR list. Anything that does not lead you closer to the business and the life you want goes. Be ruthless.

  3. Prioritize. What has top priority? If everything is important, then nothing is important. Put the things on the list in order of time sensitivity and in order of impact on your business.

  4. Schedule. Tasks on your calendar can come off of your mind. If you find yourself reminding yourself frequently to pay the utilities bills, put the due dates on your calendar as a recurring task to complete. Then remind yourself each time it comes up, that you do not need to worry about that because your calendar will remind you when it is time pay the bills. Better yet, automate as much as you possibly can. Break down your bigger tasks in to activities you can put on your calendar.

  5. Complete. Completing tasks frees up your energy. Open loops pull on the limited energy that is available for you. Make the decision that you have been weighing for too long. Or admit you are not ready to make the decision yet and put a reminder on your calendar to reevaluate the situation sometime in the near future. Then let it go

Stay focused until you have come to a conclusion. With larger projects break it down into tasks that can be completed more easily. So instead of using your energy to worry about I need to hire, you can remind yourself that you are going to complete steps 1 and 2 of the hiring process on Tuesday.
